About our service
What is Hertz2Hearts?
Hertz2Hearts provides meaningful, engaging and professionally delivered music experiences for older people in aged care communities. Our services are designed to encourage connection, participation, reminiscence, enjoyment and social engagement through music.
What is a Music Facilitator?
A Music Facilitator is a trained musician who uses music to create engaging and inclusive experiences for participants. Sessions may include live music, singing, familiar songs, rhythm, movement, reminiscence and interactive activities.
Music Facilitators are not Registered Music Therapists and do not provide clinical music therapy.
Are your services music therapy?
Our standard Music Facilitation services are not music therapy. They are designed to provide meaningful recreational, social and wellbeing-focused music experiences.
However, Hertz2Hearts can also collaborate with Registered Music Therapists where a more clinically focused service is appropriate.
Can we access a program designed by a Registered Music Therapist?
Yes. Where requested or required, Hertz2Hearts can work in collaboration with Registered Music Therapists to provide programs that are designed and overseen by qualified music therapy professionals, with appropriately trained Music Facilitators supporting delivery where suitable.
This provides aged care organisations with the flexibility to choose a service that best meets the needs of their residents.
Can Hertz2Hearts provide a service developed specifically for our residents?
Yes. We understand that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't suit every aged care community. Depending on your requirements, we can provide Music Facilitation services tailored to your residents, or collaborate with a Registered Music Therapist to develop and oversee a more clinically focused program.
What makes Hertz2Hearts different?
Our approach brings together music, healthcare knowledge and a neuroscience-informed understanding of the relationship between music, memory, emotion, behaviour and human connection.
Our founder's background as a Registered Nurse, together with experience across mental health and neuroscience-informed therapeutic approaches, provides a unique perspective on creating safe, respectful and person-centred music experiences.
In the session
What happens during a typical session?
Every session can be adapted to the residents and the environment. Activities may include live performance, singalongs, familiar songs, rhythm and percussion, movement, musical games, reminiscence, and opportunities for residents to share their own musical memories and preferences.
Do residents need to be able to sing or play an instrument?
Not at all. Music can be enjoyed at every level of ability. Residents can sing, move, participate with rhythm, share memories, or simply listen and enjoy the experience.
Can sessions be adapted for residents living with dementia?
Yes. Music can be particularly meaningful for people living with cognitive impairment, and sessions can be adapted to suit individual abilities, preferences and levels of participation. We can discuss collaboration with a Registered Music Therapist where a clinical approach is required.
How do you choose the music?
We consider the age, generation, interests and musical preferences of the residents, as well as their cultural backgrounds and the character of the community. We can also work with staff and families to identify songs that are particularly meaningful to individual residents.
Can you provide individual sessions as well as group sessions?
Yes. Depending on the needs of the facility and the service being provided, we can discuss group sessions, smaller group experiences and individualised music engagement.
Working together
Who provides the sessions?
Sessions are delivered by carefully selected Music Facilitators with strong musical ability, communication skills and a genuine passion for working with older people. Hertz2Hearts also has the ability to collaborate with Registered Music Therapists where a clinical music therapy service is requested or required.
Do you work with aged care facilities or individual families?
Our services are primarily designed for aged care organisations and communities. If you are a family member looking for meaningful music engagement for a loved one, please contact us to discuss whether we can assist or connect you with an appropriate service.
How often can sessions be provided?
Sessions can be arranged according to the needs of your organisation. This may include weekly, fortnightly, occasional or specially scheduled sessions.
Can Hertz2Hearts work with our existing lifestyle and care team?
Absolutely. We value collaboration with aged care teams and can work alongside lifestyle, wellbeing and care staff to ensure our sessions complement the existing activities and environment.
Do you provide services across Perth?
We are based in Perth and can discuss service availability depending on your location and requirements.
How do we get started?
Simply contact Hertz2Hearts to discuss your aged care community, your residents' needs and the type of music service you are looking for. We can then talk through the most appropriate option for your organisation.
From hertz to hearts
Sometimes a song is more than a song.
It can be a memory. It can be a connection. It can be a smile. It can be a moment of belonging. That's what we're here to create.
